My Values are my Compass (Original poem by Katarina Luistro)

I look to the east and I see the sun rise
inspired by its brilliance and glory.
The warmth on my face and the light in my eyes,
I listen to your silent story.

Oh sun, I pray, to live life each day
in the way that I see you do yours:
to lighten the darkness and break through the grey,
to be soft and warm to the core.

I want to be, for my friends you see,
the source of infinite light.
They’d come to me when its hard to be
passionate, joyous, and bright.

As the day goes on and the hours pass,
people gather to witness your power.
Pink and purple and orange and yellow,
we define it as Golden Hour.

Then into the West, the sun disappears
under the line of the horizon.
The temperature drops and you hold those close dear
with calmness, peace, and compassion.

Hush… be still as the silence gets louder.
Mindful, simplistic. The rain turns to showers.
Abundance, ambition. I feel the great power.
Inspiration, dedication. It builds a great tower.

For on the top of the mountain, the peaks that point North,
the snow shines like diamonds at night
from the starry sky and the moon so bright;
behold a beautiful sight.

The trek to this place is not a small feat
The climb to the top, for the daring.
Adventure ahead! I’m sure I will meet
with resilience and dedication, I’m bearing.

The prize at the top isn’t about being the best.
For me, its the leading example;
hard work and trust in yourself is the quest.
Success will surely be ample.

The snow may stay or the snow may melt.
I’m not attached to one or the other.
For down the face of the mountain with grace
is the river that leads to the mother.

The river is cleansed with water anew.
Every second never the same.
Forgiveness flows free as the roots of the trees
reach like a moth for the flame.

Like the river, our path in life can be
calm or raging in rapids.
The strife we face, secretly our saving grace
leads to growth, understanding, and happiness.

South I flow, by the river I grow.
It empties itself in collaboration.
With the ocean ahead, I empty my head
deeper than my comprehension.

Oh mother sea, you mean so much to me.
Greeted by your unconditional love.
A wealth of knowledge unspoken but seen
and felt by the winds from above.

My values are my compass.
They steer me through life.
Direction through intuition.
Wherever I find myself,
the biggest reminder
is to stand strong in my position.

Just because I wander
does not mean I am lost.
The journey is the destination.
My ego is the cost
to enter enlightenment.
To thrive past the frost.

Thank you for listening.

I’m glad our paths crossed.
